Has your hometown changed within the past several years? My home country is Japan and my hometown is Kobe city. Both of them have lost their natural environment, and they have been developed like Western countries or America. There are two reasons for this development, years of high economic growth in Japan and the role of Kobe as an important port.
First, Japan has developed a lot in last few decades because Japan recovered from its lost in World War Ⅱ. After the war, Japan was organized like Western countries and especially America. This is because after the war, the Americans controlled Japan for several years. They democratized Japan and they changed the educational system. After their control, Japan had a time of high economic growth and developed important industries for instance, electronics, automobiles and advanced transportation systems such as the Shinkansen or many highways. These developments gave us a lot of new products for example, washing machines, televisions and cars. Those were inspired by America. In addition, Japan has been importing many products from America now. Also, it is just my opinion, Japanese people have a desire to copy American style. Therefore, people in Japan have started to use products which came from Western countries or America. Then, the cities became more similar.
Second, Kobe has been developed as a significant port in Japan since ancient times. There were many modern things imported from foreign countries to Kobe and there are many foreign people who work in Kobe. Therefore, in Kobe, many western style houses and buildings for foreigners were built and still remain. Those became very famous sightseeing places for both tourists and citizens. As I wrote, to adopt the Western style of construction made cities more similar.
Thus, the construction and products from Western countries or America made our cities more similar and similar, and many cities developed like cities in Western countries or America.
