Unforgettable Time of My LIfe

I visited my host family last weekend. I was so nervous about meeting my host family because it's my first time to participate in a homestay program. But it was great experience of my life. I experienced a fantastic party during the weekend which impressed and moved me.

Delicious Potluck Dinner
First, I went to a wonderful party on Thursday afternoon because my host mother was going to sing there. She sings in many parties and churchs. Also, it was a potluck party which is a kind of party in which people bring their meals from their houses and share them each other. It was first time for me to enjoy a potluck!! We made rice balls and brought them to the party. I ate a lot of food and enjoyed talking with many people. While listening to her sing, some couples started dancing. Suddenly, a man came to me and asked me to dance. I was surprised because I had only seen such a scene in movies and had never danced with a man in front of many people. When I danced with him, I was too shy to dance very well. But many people who saw me dance cheered me on, so I was very happy.

Nice Barbecue Grill
Second, at the party, a man gave me delicious steaks from his private barbecue grill. It was so great that I ate too much of them. He told me that many people in America have a grill for a barbecuing and enjoy cooking in their yard. I was surprised to hear that. In Japan, most people don't have barbecue grills so much. After coming home, I asked my host family if they have a barbecue grill. Then they said to me, 'Yes, of course!!' That's why America is famous for barbecuing.

During the homestay, I learned a lot of fabulous things I had never experienced before. If I told the story to my friends and family in Japan, they would be surprised and interested in America. I want to feel American lifestyle much more before I leave America.

I had barbecue dinner too!
American barbecue machine is quite different from Japanese one.
It's really interesting, isn't it? :)
